Every year a new summer season brings new babies. With new babies comes an increase in numbers and this increases the impact on the natural vegetation leaving us with no choice but to decrease the number of game as is calculated based on veld biomass and nutritional value for each game species. Recommendations from GDARD are also considered in the decision of numbers and species to be removed. Species to be removed this year include Black Wildebeest, Impala, Kudu, Springbuck, Zebra, Red Hartebeest, Blesbuck, Waterbuck and Giraffe. The giraffe removal is to meet with GDARD compliance notifications.
Residents must note that game capturing will commence mid-March 2019 as capturing with a passive BOMA and darting with veterinary assistance requires longer periods of time to allow animals to get used in entering such a BOMA. Capturing will continue till end of July. Notice will be provided in advance when areas are closed off and residents are requested to honour such requests for the safety of the animals, staff participating in the capture and residents themselves. Residents interested to purchase animals must obtain the required permits i.e. to transport and or re locate such animals. Prices are determined by the going rates at auctions and or prices available from leading game websites. Interested parties can e-mail enquiries to estate management.
