Tip for the Month – Reporting Missing Persons


  • There is no waiting period to report a missing person and missing persons must be reported at your nearest police station immediately.
  • Produce a recent photograph of missing person
  • Give a complete description: last whereabouts, clothes worn, any other information that may assist the investigating officers
  • Complete and sign a SAPS 55(A) form which is to avoid hoax reports and indemnifies the SAPS to distribute the photograph and information of the missing person. Ensure you receive an OB or case reference number before contact S.A.S.I.
  • Obtain the investigating officer’s contact details and forward any additional information that may become available
  • If missing person is found or return voluntary, inform the investigating officer immediately. A SAPS 92 form needs to be completed.
